Lantern Hill Landscapes is a family-owned business based in the outer South East of Melbourne.

Our passion is creating beautiful and functional gardens that suit the customer’s needs and budgets; making personal spaces they love to spend time in. From the price-conscious first home buyer to the established homeowner wanting all the bells and whistles, we’ll create a garden you’ll be proud to call your own.

Creating functional outdoor spaces extends beyond your garden. Our team caters to all your outdoor construction needs, including concreting, decking, retainer walls, artificial or real turf, or even custom-made garden art that you can truly call your own. Be it a sophisticated adult-only space, an interactive child-friendly garden, or something in between, we work with you to create the perfect outdoor spaces with a cost and obligation-free quote.

Why choose us?

We believe it’s the simple things that make all the difference when dealing with tradespeople.

  • Itemised quotes so you see where your money is going.
  • An updated quote if changes are requested.
  • Complete respect for your home, tidy job sites including end-of-day cleans.
  • Ongoing progress reports.

Meet the Crew

Our team often uses external contractors and is constantly growing, meaning you’ll see a variety of friendly faces onsite. Here are some of the main crew you can expect to see during a job.

Matthew Nagle

Director

Matthew has well over 30 years of landscaping and horticultural experience, with an Associate Diploma in Applied Science (Horticulture). His career has included work in the plant nursery and landscape construction industries, including the beautiful New England area of East Coast America.

Today, his main focus is on quoting, coordinating crew, and doing the odd bit of hands-on work where needed. His favourite part of the business – still to this day – is working with the customer to choose a planting theme and bringing that vision to life.

In his spare time, he loves picking his banjo, playing lawn bowls, pottering around the garden, and spending time with his wife, kids, and trusted dogs, Bear and Hiccup.

Nathan Trewin

Supervisor – 2IC

Fully qualified with 10 years experience, Nathan started working with us one day a week, supplementing his full-time job at the time. Realising he enjoyed landscaping more, he began his career with us where he quickly proved himself as a leader.

His material of choice to work with is timber – give him a deck, screen or fence to build, and he’s a happy man! We’re yet to see a challenge Nathan doesn’t meet head-on.

Nathan’s downtime is spent with friends, catching up with his family, hunting and gaming.

Nathan Wenczel (NJ)

Supervisor

Nathan completed an apprenticeship in Cert III Landscape Construction at Holmesglenn and has over 10 years of experience in landscape construction. His hard work earned him the prize for ‘Outstanding Apprentice of the Year’ in his third Year.

Onsite, Nathan loves working with natural stone products, particularly paving and edging, and he’s always around to help others when needed.

Nathan’s life outside of work is pretty simple. On the weekends, he enjoys going to his favourite cafe for breakfast, seeing his parents, and taking his dogs for a walk. His hobbies include tabletop, card, and board games, and he also likes catching up with friends for a coffee.

Lachy Anderson

Supervisor

Fully qualified with 4 years of experience, Lachy is a natural. Before starting with us, he worked as a nurse for three years. Working in the outdoors in a creative space motivated the change, and he has loved it ever since.

Skilled at all aspects, Lachy’s role in our landscaping team is to help the two Nathan’s run the larger jobs and  run his own smaller sites.

Outside of landscaping, Lachy enjoys spending time with his wife, mates and dogs. He is a massive Melbourne Football Club supporter and loves trips to the MCG.

Heath Aston

Labourer

When Heath moved back to Melbourne in 2013, he thought he’d do a short stint labouring for his brother-in-law for a few months. This short stint turned into a much longer period of work, stretching out to make him our longest-serving employee. Known as “the Barrow King”, he sets the pace that all new employees aspire to.

Check out his podcasts, ‘Victorian Gas Lamp,’ a historical journey back to the 19th century, and ‘The Retro Cinema Podcast, ’ celebrating the movies of the 1980s. He’s also written books, including ‘Lord of Arradon’ and ‘Dark Martyr, ’ with the third book of the fantasy trilogy coming out soon.

Kate Nagle

Administration Manager

Kate is the business’s administration and computer whiz. With over 30 years of reception, bookkeeping, and admin experience, she ensures the paperwork is done and the team gets paid.

When she’s not sitting at the computer, Kate is busy with her and Matt’s three daughters. She spends her relaxation time having fun with her girls, reading, watching movies, and sharing wine and food with family and friends.
